Charles City Considers Leaving NEIC

A task force at Charles City is recommending that the school leave the Northeast Iowa Conference and start a new league. This is just a recommendation but according to the Charles City superintendent 10 teams would be interested in joining a new league with most of the current NEIC schools joining the league. The presumption is that Waverly-Shell Rock would not be one of the teams invited to the theoretical new conference.

This Charles City task force was put together following complaints about sportsmanship on the side of Waverly-Shell Rock and an incident when a Charles City outfielder heard racist comments during a game hosted by Waverly-Shell Rock.

Waverly-Shell Rock athletic director Dave Litterer was asked whether the size differences amongst conference schools or the sportsmanship issues are the wedge driving Charles City away from the 100 year old conference.

If Charles City chooses to leave it would likely be a two year process much like the Oelwein is in as they move next year to the North Iowa Cedar League.
