Former Instructor Sues UIU

A former Upper Iowa University instructor has filed a lawsuit against the school, claiming her boss was sexist and she was fired for asking for an investigation, according to KWWL. 59 year old Katherine Thomas was an English instuctor at Upper Iowa from 1992 to 2020. She alleges that Dr Douglas McReynolds, the chair of the English Department, showed sexist behavior on a number of occasions. In one of those occasions he alleged told Thomas he was smarter because he was a man. On another he allegedly asked Thomas if she was PMSing. Thomas complained to human resources in 2017 and 2018 before being told in 2018 she was unqualified to teach and moved to the Writer’s Workshop Coordinator. In 2020 she was furloughed before being fired. The university has declined to comment due to pending litigation.
