Hate Crime Investigation in Waterloo

Waterloo police are investigating a possible hate crime against a local religious community.

The vandals defaced the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Waterloo, Tuesday evening. Painting “Jesus Saves” and two crosses on the building.

Leaders in the Jewish community are calling it a clear disrespect of their beliefs. Although not vicious, Police say the graffiti does classify as a hate crime.

Waterloo Police Chief Dan Trelka says it appears to be a juevenile delinquent type behavior, also noting that purple cross marks were also painted on the backs of some area street signs.

Anyone with information on the vandalism is encouraged to call Waterloo Crime Stoppers 855-300-8477.
