Spring Sports Athletes Get Extra Year

The NCAA Division I Council has announced that spring sports athletes will be given an extra semester of eligibility. The spring sports had the majority of the season canceled.

The chair of the council Grace Calhoun said, “The Council’s decision gives individual schools the flexibility to make decisions at a campus level. The Board of Governors encourages conferences and schools to take action in the best interest of student-athletes and their communities, and now schools have the opportunity to do that.”

Schools will be able to decide whether or not those students receive an extra year of scholarship or not. Critics of the NCAA ruling wanted winter sports athletes who didn’t get a chance to compete for a national championship to receive an extra year as well, but that was not granted.
