Vaccine Eligibility Expands Monday

Beginning Monday Iowans who are under the age of 65 but have certain health risk will become eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. People with these medical conditions will be eligible: asthma, cancer, cerebrovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, COPD, cystic fibrosis, Down Syndrome, certain heart conditions, high blood pressure or hypertension, liver disease, neurological conditions such as dementia, organ transplant recipients with a weakened immune system, pulmonary fibrosis, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, types 1 and 2 diabetes, or those with a weakened immune system. In addition to those, smokers, pregnant women, and those who have a body mass index over 25 will also be eligible for the vaccine. Beginning Tuesday, those who are over 65 and have not yet gotten the vaccination can call 211 to set up an appointment.
