Waterloo Vaping Ban

Waterloo Leisure Services has announced that they will be banning vaping along with smoking at city owned parks and recreational facilities, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The Commission voted 4-0 to adopt the policy on Tuesday. There is an important distinction between a policy and an ordinance that would have needed city council approval. There will be no way for police or anyone else to enforce the policy. Instead posted signs and peer pressure will be relied upon to stop smoking and vaping at those facilities. Waterloo Leisure Services say they talked with and modeled their policy on that of Waverly Leisure Services, who report a marked change since posting signs outlawing smoking and vaping. The signs will be provided free of charge by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
