Waverly Chief Weighs in on UTV Issue

The Chief of Police in Waverly, Richard Pursell, has released his opinion on Off-Road Utility Vehicles being used within city limits. He remains against the idea of those vehicles on paved roads in town. He says his concern is safety citing manufacturer’s recommendation of ORVs being utilized off road, they are not built to be used on paved roads. He further cites the State Code of Iowa which states all-terrain vehicles shall not be operated on a highway unless they meet the use for agriculture purposes. He also addresses the point that ORVs can be registered by pointing out that is not for operation on the roads. Chief Pursell closes by reiterating that he is against on-road use of ORVs because it would conflict with manufacturers’ intentions but would be open to compelling information that overrides his safety concerns.
