West Nile in Iowa

This year’s first human cases of West Nile Virus in Iowa have been confirmed in Sioux County. A female child and a male adult were both hospitalized with the virus. The Iowa Public Health Department says less than 1 percent of those who are infected with West Nile become seriously ill. You can reduce the risk by using mosquito repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Mosquitoes are most active at dusk and dawn so avoided outdoor activities during those times may help as well.
