Ice Rescue at Big Woods Lake

Cedar Falls Public Safety was called to Big Woods Lake Sunday night just before 6:30 on a report two individuals had fallen through the ice. When they arrived they found two teenagers in the water and unable to get themselves to the shore. The victims were able to communicate with responders about 40 yards away. Public Safety Officers were able to utilize ice rescue equipment to bring both teens to safety. They were then taken to the hospital and treated for what were described as non life threatening injuries. Cedar Falls Public Safety says they are aware of three separate incidents of subjects falling through the ice and encourage the public to use caution near ice. The north boat ramp at Big Woods Lake has been barricaded and closed by the City of Cedar Falls.
