Man Acquitted of Abuse Charges

A man accused of luring a “low functioning” woman to Waterloo where he sexually and physically abused her has been acquitted of those charges, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 36 year old Christopher Rumachik was accused of bringing the 23 year old woman from Kansas, where she was under a guardianship, to his home in Waterloo. The prosecution argued once in Iowa the woman was not allowed to leave the home. They say she was even pepper sprayed once for trying to leave. The state said the woman was unable to consent to sexual relations. The two had actually met four years earlier and lived in Nashua for a time. The defense argued the woman had expressed a desire to come to Waterloo and that the two had been out in public while she was here.
