Nurse Charged With Stealing Morphine

A former Waterloo nurse has been charged with taking a patient’s morphine pills, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Court documents say a coworker at Friendship Village Retirement Community witnessed Kelsey Baxter take the morphine pills from a patient’s medication card. Baxter then tested positive for opiates and was terminated. She voluntarily entered inpatient treatment and followed that up with outpatient treatment. As part of the Acquiring a Controlled Substance Through Deception charge, the government is seeking a forfeiture of Baxter’s nursing license as well.
