The Waterloo Fire Department was called to the scene of an apartment fire Sunday night around 5:30. The apartment was inside the Russell Lamson Building on 5th and Commercial streets in Waterloo. Captain Kevin Lee told KWWL that the fire started on the second floor however both the first and second floors received smoke damage from the fire. The blaze was quickly put out once firefighters arrived on scene. The cause of the fire is unknown at this point but that is being investigated. No injuries were reported from the incident.
A man was found dead at the same location on Friday night. The man was found unresponsive on the sidewalk just before 10:00 p.m. Friday. His name has not yet been released. According to police there were no signs of foul play or injury. The man’s death and Sunday’s fire are not thought to be linked.
