Monday night the Waverly City Council voted to deny a $1 million grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation to help pay for a proposed replacement of the Green Bridge. With the grant the bridge would be required to be a two lane bridge. The vote was 3-4 with Matthew Schneider, Kris Glaser, Heather Beaufore and Tim Kangas voting not to take the grant.
The Green Bridge has been closed to vehicle and foot traffic for just over five years.
