2 Arrested for Funny Money

Two people have been arrested for allegedly passing counterfeit money at stores in Cedar Falls and Waterloo in October. 32-year-old Joshua Lee Johnson and 33-year-old Misty Dawn Wittren of Waterloo were arrested for forgery after buying items at the Cedar Falls Walmart using counterfeit $1 bills on October 16th. According to police, the bills had the same serial number, and bills with that serial number were also used at the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Waterloo office on October 20th. Someone had also attempted to use a counterfeit $20 bill at New Star Mart on Ansborough Avenue. Johnson and Wittren were caught when, in November, Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle they were in, and authorities found a backpack containing a large amount of fake $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills, court records state.
