An area museum dedicated to sporting hero has reopened. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in downtown Waterloo reopened its doors yesterday evening after being closed since September. During that time a massive $1.4 million renovation took place, turning the facility into a state of the art museum with interactive kiosks as well as expanding the wrestling room, teaching center and theater. The reopening was done in conjunction with the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals being held at the UNI-Dome starting today and lasting through the weekend. Dan Gable was born in Waterloo before going on to wrestle collegiately at Iowa State where he was a two time national champion, losing just once in his career. He also won a gold medal at the 1972 Olympics where he went 6-0 and did not give up a single point. He would later become the head coach at Iowa from 1976 to 1997, winning 15 NCAA Division 1 titles.
