Standoff Puts School on Lockdown

A standoff between Waterloo Police and an armed suspect put Hoover Middle School in lockdown Thursday, according to KWWL. Police responded to a home on Hilltop Road where an armed suspect was holding two others and refusing to come out shortly before 1:30. Eventually the other two people were allowed to leave without incident. Police engaged in conversation with the suspect and attempted to persuade him to come out as well, however, he refused and stopped all communication. Police later entered the residence where they found the suspect dead of an apparent gun shot wound. Students from Hoover were not allowed to walk home during the standoff and had to be picked up at Lou Henry Elementary.
