Homeless Man Rescued Woman in River

A man pulled a woman from the Cedar River in Waterloo yesterday afternoon, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 24 year old Andrew Francisco was smoking a cigarette near the Riverloop Amphitheatre around 1:30 when he saw the woman in the water. He then ran across the Park Avenue bridge and down to the river’s edge and grabbed hold of the woman, pulling her to safety by the belt loop. Once he got her to dry land he ran to the bus depot on Sycamore Street and had a driver call an ambulance. The woman was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. Her name has not been released. Francisco says he recently moved to Waterloo from Sumner and has been living in a homeless shelter while he looks for work. His time at the shelter runs out next week.
