The Cedar Falls City Council has overruled the first mayoral veto made in 20 years, according to KWWL. Mayor Rob Green had vetoed a resolution that would replace career firefighters with Public Safety Officers. A 5-2 vote from the council reaffirmed their position however. As part of the resolution firefighters will be placed on paid administrative leave while a task force helps them transition. Many citizens had voiced their concern of not feeling safe with PSOs taking over. They also had urged the council to wait for a special election to fill an empty council seat, but that did not happen. Mayor Green also announced that Janesville mayor Dave Beenblossom would lower how much support they would offer in a mutual aid agreement between the cities with PSOs in position.
