While Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to summer, it’s also the start of a dangerous time for teen drivers. The National Safety Council says the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day marks the 100 deadliest days for teenagers behind the wheel. About 1,000 people die in crashes involving teenage drivers during that stretch of time nationwide. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers. The Council says teen drivers are more likely to be driving with friends during the summer. That makes a teen 44% more likely to get in a crash. Teenagers may also be driving later and more likely to speed in summer months, which both increase the chance for a crash.
