Another protest and march was held Monday in Cedar Falls in response to social media posts last week that showed a smiling white female Cedar Falls student holding a cookie or a cake with the n word spelled out in brown M&Ms. The Black Lives Matter Chapter in Waterloo and the Black Student Union at Cedar Falls High School organized this demonstration. More than 100 students, parents, and community members participated. Their message was that they are not going to sit idly by as these events continue to happen. During the the demonstration students shared their experiences with discrimination at the school. They also provided the school district with a list of demands including serious and consistent disciplinary action, providing support specifically catered to people of color, and simply listening to the stories and experiences being shared. The student in the picture has been disciplined.
