The Oelwein School District is responding to a picture that surfaced showing an overly crowded bus, with three people to a seat. A statement released by the school district says that after returning to 100% attendance on February 2nd there were more riders, which coincided with recent cold weather and snow events leading to even more rider, some who had not signed up to ride the bus. The transportation department allowed those students to ride and “chose safety of all students over convenience.” The district contends buses are still operating under capacity, however they are looking for substitute and full time drivers for more temporary shuttles.
