The Waterloo Police Chief has been named as a candidate for the Director of the Memphis Police Department, according to KWWL. Joel Fitzgerald was sworn in to lead Waterloo Police on June 2nd. Since that time he has applied for positions in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Miami, Florida in addition to this position in Memphis. Fitzgerald is among seven candidates for the job. Interviews will take place in the next few weeks with a decision being made in April. The search to find candidates was done by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
