Union Community Schools continues to deal with the fallout from a cyberattack back in early April, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Superintendent Travis Fleshner told the paper that while the problem has mostly been worked through there were some additional documents that the unauthorized person may have had access to, which is being investigated. Fleshner did not expand on what type of documents may have been accessed but did say that those affected were notified right away. Fleshner says they are continuing to enhance their cybersecurity policies, procedures, and protocols. Personal information of students and staff are kept on a secure backup file. Student’s permanent records are kept indefinitely while employment applications are kept for two years and payroll records for three years.
