Bremer County’s emergency notification system is receiving an upgrade to increase its capability to provide emergency and public safety information to citizens. Alert Iowa is a statewide emergency notification system that enables State and local officials to communicate information directly to citizens. The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is making a change to utilize improved technology which will make it easier to issue alerts and provide more options for the public. Bremer County has used the system in the past for weather information and missing person announcements but the system can also be used for hazardous materials emergencies and other public safety situations. Even if you have signed up for the service in the past you will need to sign up for the updated service on the Bremer County Emergency Management website. The service is free of charge.
