The City of Cedar Falls sent the following:
On Sunday, August 29th, at 8:20PM, Black Hawk County Dispatch received a 911 call from the operator of a disabled boat which was stuck in a tree on the flooded Cedar River. The 911 caller reported the one boat lost power and was being towed by a second boat. He reported the second boat also lost power and both boats and passengers were stuck in a tree north of Black Hawk Park on the Cedar River in Black Hawk County. Black Hawk Park is currently flooded and not accessible.
Cedar Falls Fire Rescue personnel deployed two boats from Island Park in Cedar Falls. Firefighters navigated to a point north of Black Hawk Park on the swollen river where they located the disabled boats and passengers. The passengers and boats were rescued by firefighters and towed to Island Park.
Six passengers were rescued from the two boats. The passengers were all adults and teenagers. The passengers were examined by firefighters and paramedics. No injuries were reported.
Cedar Falls Public Safety was assisted on scene by paramedics from Mercy One Cedar Falls.
Cedar Falls Public Safety would like to remind all citizens to be aware of and avoid flooded areas in our community. Boaters are reminded to exercise extreme caution in any flooded areas and especially in the fast-moving currents of flooded rivers and streams.
