Significant progress is being made in the cleanup of a train derailment in Chickasaw County, according to the New Hampton Fire Department. The train derailed in the area of 220th Street and Ivanhoe Court on Saturday spilling diesel fuel and anhydrous ammonia. That led to evacuations in the area. The car in question has now been evaluated and is no longer considered hazardous, however, officials are still asking the public to stay away from the derailment site because flood waters have caused a rapid deterioration in the gravel in the area.
