An open house has been scheduled for the 1619 Freedom School in Waterloo. The 1619 Freedom School is a free community based, after-school literacy program where students improve literacy skills and develop a love for reading through liberating instruction centered on Black American history, according to the program’s website. The open house will be held on Sunday, December 19th at 6pm. Attendees will be able to tour the school, meet the teachers as well as the school’s founder, journalist, author, and Pulitzer Prize winner Nikole Hannah-Jones. They ask that you RSVP at 1619freedomschool.org/openhouse.
