Large Grant Aimed to Help People Get Teachers License

A $300,000 grant has been announced to expand a program aimed at providing opportunities for paraeducators and other support staff of color in Waterloo to earn teacher licensure through UNI, according to KWWL. In the Teach Waterloo program, those involved, known as fellows, commit to a three year agreement with the Waterloo district once they graduate. To this point the program has mostly focused on elementary educators. There are currently eight fellows, three of which have graduated. This grant will pay for tuition for 12 new fellows. To qualify, candidates must be currently employed by the Waterloo district, have an associates degree, and be recommended by a principal or administrator.
