Former Teacher’s License Suspended

The Union middle school teacher who was at the center of a scandal in which he sent at least one student inappropriate emails has had his teaching license suspended by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, according to KWWL. Mark Hookham, who was allowed to resign and receive a $15,000 payout from the school, had his license suspended for a minimum of five years for soliciting, encouraging, or consummating a romantic or otherwise inappropriate relationship with a student. The first email of concern was sent out by Hookham in December of 2020, he was not placed on leave until March 12th of 2021. The school also agreed to only provide dates of employment to any future employer of Hookham.
