Former Nurse Sentenced for Stealing Meds

A former nurse at nursing homes in Waterloo and Cedar Falls has been sentenced for stealing pain medication, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 32 year old Matthew Bowlden was sentenced to one year and one day in prison to be followed by a year of supervised release on a charge of Acquiring a Controlled Substance by Deception. He took an oxycodone pill intended for a 95 year old dementia patient on his first day on the job at Western Home Communities. Bowlden was previously investigated by the Iowa Board of Nursing on three separate occasions and his nursing license was suspended for a year in 2019. With this conviction, he has been forced to forfeit that license.
