The son of the former Waterloo Police Chief has been killed in the line of duty in Philadelphia, according to KWWL. The son of Joel Fitzgerald, Chris Fitzgerald, was a Temple University Police Officer. On Saturday night he was pursuing a suspect in a convenience store robbery and a carjacking. The suspect, identified as 18 year old Miles Pfeffer, allegedly shot and killed Chris Fitzgerald. Pfeffer was taken into custody on Sunday morning using a pair of Officer Fitzgerald’s handcuffs. He is expected to be charged with Murder. Joel Fitzgerald was Waterloo’s controversial Police Chief from 2020 to August of 2022 when he took a job in Denver, Colorado.
