The Waverly Police Department and Bremer County Sheriff’s Office arrested a North Carolina woman for her role in using fraudulent identification to perpetrate thefts from First Bank branches in Waverly, Plainfield, and Cedar Falls on Monday. 49 year old Gloria Pantelis of Thomasville, North Carolina was allegedly using a social security card and driver’s license information to cash checks at each of the branches. Those identification cards were allegedly stolen out of a vehicle parked at George Wyth State Park in October. Police believe Pantelis was a just a small pawn in a bigger operation as Captain Jason Leonard explains.
Pantelis has been charged with multiple charges of Theft, Identity Theft, and Forgery. The investigation is ongoing and includes several agencies throughout the state and country. Additional charges are pending.
