City Collecting More Taxes

The City of Waverly is expected to collect 3.5% more in property taxes for the fiscal year beginning July 1st, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The City Council approved the 2023-24 budget on Monday with property tax revenues rising from $7.95 million to $8.23 million due to an increase in the city’s tax rate and growth in property values. The new property tax rate came in at just under $17 per $1,000 of taxable value, which is 3.9% higher than the 2022-23 budget. Administrator James Bronner acknowledged not being happy with the tax rate but being satisfied with the overall financial position of the city.
