The following is from the City of Cedar Falls:
The City of Cedar Falls will be conducting prescribed (planned) burns in the prairie areas within the boundaries of Big Woods Lake Recreation Area and Pheasant Ridge Golf Course during the week of April 3, 2023, as weather permits. If weather does not allow for a burn, it will take place the following weeks.
To ensure a safe and successful burn, Cedar Falls Parks and Public Works staff will be working with Cedar Falls Fire Rescue.
Prescribed burns are used to control invasive plant species and to restore and maintain native plant communities that will benefit wildlife and promote sustainable ecosystem services.
