On June 21, 2023, at 10:36 AM, Cedar Falls Public Safety was dispatched to 2200-110 Zircon Lane for a shed fire, and the shed was next to the mobile home. Dispatch received a call of a lot of smoke in the area. Dispatch advised it was unknown if residents were out. Public Safety Officers on Patrol arrived prior to the fire units and contacted the resident, who advised he was the only one in the mobile home, but he had 16 cats still inside. When the fire units arrived, the fire spread to the trailer directly beside the shed. Fire units started a search for the cats and initiated suppression.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and rescued all 16 cats. There were no injuries during the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
