Lost Island Attendance Up But Still Losing Money

As the season comes to a close Lost Island Themepark General Manager Eric Bertch says attendance has gone up in year two but the park is not yet profitable, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Last year attendance was well below Bertch’s predictions, actually just a tenth of what they had projected, at just over 26,000. This year just over 46,000 people attended the park. Bertch is hoping that trend continues next year as he says the positive word of mouth is getting out. The park is built to hold 7,500 guests, however the most popular day this season saw 1,400 guests and the longest wait for a ride was eight minutes. Bertch says they are planning to implement a carousel next year and more trees and shade will be brought in. He says they will also upgrade the theming. The Bertch family spent an estimated $100 million to build the theme park. Bertch says the idea was never to make that money back but for the theme park and the water park of the same name to survive on their own. The theme park will be open the next two weekends before it closes for the season.
