A former Clarksville police officer has been found guilty of carrying on a sexual relationship with a 16 year old Waverly-Shell Rock student and her sister among other charges, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 35 year old Michael Tobin Jr. was found guilty of 11 charges in total and faces over 40 years in prison when he is sentenced. Tobin first met the teen while investigating another local sex offender who was offering girls alcohol and cigarettes in exchange for nude photos. Tobin began having sex with the girl after she joined the ride-along program. Tobin would even meet the girl during her lunch period to have sex in the school parking lot. Classmates noticed the teen talking with Tobin through a Google Doc during class and went to school officials. After Tobin’s superiors and other officers caught Tobin and the girl in compromising situations at the station he was fired. The Clarksville City Council rescinded that firing, however, and allowed Tobin to resign. He remains free on bond until sentencing. Tobin, the police department, and the city of Clarksville are also facing a civil lawsuit which alleges stalking, grooming, sexual abuse, kidnapping, and illegal surveillance.
