UNI has received a $250,000 gift to renovate the Campanile, according to KIMT. Jan and Scott Bittner of Cedar Falls have pledged the money to specifically renovate the Campanile Plaza. That is phase two of the refurbish of the Campanile. Phase one included the restoration of the carillon, the instrument housed inside the tower. The UNI Foundation says the goal is to complete the fundraising for the project in time to begin plaza renovations in the summer of 2024. The Bittners are retired owners of the Cedar Falls based Hawkeye Corrugated Box Company. Jan was also an assistant coach for the UNI volleyball team from 1982 to 1997.
