Former Clarksville Officer Gets Up To 41 Years in Prison

A former Clarksville police officer who utilized the ride-a-long program to sexually abuse children has been sentenced, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 35 year old Michael Tobin was facing up to 41 years in prison but was sentenced to up to 15 on Monday. The charges stemmed initially from Tobin showing a teen sexually explicit photos from the investigation of another sex offender, Cody Blue. Tobin then began exchanging nude photos with the teen before having sexual intercourse with her and her sister, who was also a minor, on multiple occasions in his patrol car, in the police station, and even in the Waverly Shell Rock High School parking lot on the girl’s lunch break. During the trial the judge pointed out that Tobin took great pride in the fact he had been with teenagers. The judge defended his sentence saying that 41 years was “more than is necessary to protect society, allow for rehabilitation and deter others, especially those in law enforcement, from engaging in such criminal behavior.” Tobin will have to register as a sex offender when he gets out of prison. He is also facing two lawsuits brought on by the sisters.
