Longer Sentence for Attempted Murder than Manslaughter

A Waterloo man has been sentenced to more than four times the prison time for almost killing someone than he got for actually killing someone, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 34 year old Robert Williams Jr. was sentenced to 45 years in prison for Attempted Murder, Willful Injury, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Williams shot Tony Campbell in the face in an alley in July of 2020. Williams believed Campbell had poisoned his brother. Campbell would survive the shooting. Williams is already serving a 10 year sentence for Voluntary Manslaughter in the stabbing death of Vincent Hemenway as he worked on motorcycles in a garage in August of 2020. Williams is also awaiting trial for his role in an August 2020 gunfight in which two people were injured.
