Arrest Made in Incident in March

Cedar Falls Police have made an arrest in an incident from March. Police say that 42 year old Ryan Pontasch was behind the wheel of a GMC pickup truck on the afternoon of March 13th when he left the roadway and struck a bicyclist. A vehicle driving in front of Pontasch had slowed to turn into Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Police allege that Pontasch had looked away from the roadway and when his eyes returned to what was in front of him he saw the slowing vehicle and swerved to avoid a collision. In doing so he allegedly went off the road onto a nearby bike path, hitting several signs, a tree, and a 22 year old bicyclist. The bicyclist was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and has since been released. Pontasch has been charged with Serious Injury by Vehicle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, and Failure to Maintain Control. It is unclear why the arrest has come more than five months after the alleged crime.
