A former Waterloo Police Chief has taken the same role in a small Colorado town in the Rockies, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Dan Trelka was the Waterloo Police Chief from 2010 until his retirement in 2019. He has now taken the chief job in Leadville, Colorado, which has a population of 2,600. Trelka has two daughters who live in Colorado, including one in Leadville. Leadville has had four chiefs in the last six years, including one who has filed a lawsuit against the city claiming he was fired because he is Black and another who was sentenced to probation in 2019 after selling guns that had been seized as evidence. Trelka says the force of eight sworn officers needs some stability. Trelka must be certified as a law enforcement officer in Colorado and must pass shooting, driving, and defense tactics tests before he can officially accept the position.
