Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate identified 92 people in Black Hawk County may not be U.S. Citizens but registered to vote, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Auditor Grant Veeder says 13 of those 92 have proven that they are indeed citizens and two have cancelled their registration. The rest are urged to bring proof of citizenship to the county courthouse so they can be cleared. Those on the list will still be allowed to vote on election day but with a provisional ballot and then will have a week to prove their citizenship status. Pate’s office produced a list of 2,000 names statewide of people who were in the country legally, but were not citizens that may have registered to vote. Voting or registering to vote without U.S. Citizenship is a felony in Iowa, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine.
