On February 4, 2025 at approximately 7:10 PM Valentin Dumitru, 34 of Sarasota, FL was traveling south on Hwy 63 in a 2024 Peterbilt semi, pulling an oversized load. He was being escorted by pilot vehicles in the front and rear. Robert Nielsen, 42 of Dunkerton was also traveling Southbound behind Dumitru, driving a Pontiac Vibe, with two passengers. Nielsen attempted to pass the semi on the right side as Dumitru began to turn west on Hwy. 188. Nielsen was unable to stop before striking the semi on the passenger side, causing Nielsen’s vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its roof. Nielsen and his passengers were transported to Allen Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Bremer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Frederika Fire, Tripoli Fire, Tripoli Ambulance, Waverly Ambulance, and Iowa State Patrol.
