Tuesday is High School Voter Registration Day in the State of Iowa. Students across Iowa will participate in voter education initiatives, focusing on voter registration, civic education, and preparation for future participation in Iowa elections. In 2019 Secretary of State Paul Pate launched the Carrie Chapman Catt Award to encourage voter registration in Iowa high schools. Catt was born and grew up near Charles City. She was instumental in the passage of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. In 2024, nearly 16,000 high school students were registered to vote as part of the program. The award goes to schools that register at least 90 percent of their eligible students.
