A Central Middle School staff member has resigned after being placed on administrative leave following an incident with a student. The Waterloo School District says they immediately placed the staff member on administrative leave upon learning of the incident and then sought legal counsel and informed law enforcement. Following the district’s investigation the staff member resigned instead of being terminated. The District says in order to protect the privacy of those involved, details on the incident and and the identities of those involved have been withheld. A mother of a student at the school claimed at a school board meeting that the staff member took her son into a secluded room, unbuckled his belt and then asked the child to buckle his belt for him as his wrist was injured. The boy allegedly expressed reservations and asked if another staff member could do it but this staff member insisted the boy do it for him. After the boy buckled the belt he told the principal who allegedly replied with, “What do you want me to do about it?” Then, a meeting was set up between the boy and the staff member in which the boy was allegedly forced to attend against his will. The mother claims to have audio from that meeting as her son had his phone recording audio at the time unbeknownst to the staff member. In that meeting the staff member allegedly cusses several times and uses crude language with the boy. No charges have been made public to this point.
