A Charles City woman is also going to prison for 20 years after she physically assaulted a child, according to KIMT. 37 year old Samantha Slaughter pleaded guilty to Child Endangerment Resulting in Serious Injury and Willful Injury Resulting in Serious Injury. On February 13th Slaughter was taking care of a child when she slammed them on the floor, forcefully grabbed the child’s face, force-fed them food, shook and jerked their head and face, hit them in the face with the child’s own hands, and forced the child to the floor by grabbing their neck. The child was left with facial bruising and swelling, bleeding in the eyes, and bleeding in the head and brain. Doctors had to remove a part of the child’s skull to prevent compression of the brain and insert a naso-gastric tube for feeding. They believe the child will likely have permanent disabilities. Slaughter was sentenced to 10 years in prison on both counts to be served consecutively.
