A Waterloo man who unsuccessfully ran for sheriff has been arrested for allegedly claiming to be the sheriff, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 36 year old Nihad Masic was arrested on Friday and charged with Impersonating an Officer and Trespassing. Police say Masic went to a home on Denver Street and demanding information on a relative of the occupants of the home while allegedly claiming to be the sheriff. He was asked to leave the property but allegedly refused to do so. Masic has no law enforcement training but still ran for Black Hawk County Sheriff in 2024 in the Democratic Primary. He lost that race to Nathan Neff, who went on to be elected Sheriff. Masic is also awaiting trial for a July 2025 incident in which he allegedly threatened people at a bar with a knife.
