A Sumner man crashed into a semi that was attempting a turn near Hawkeye on Friday afternoon. 48 year old Shane Booth of Waterloo was driving the semi just after noon when he attempted to turn south onto W Avenue from the westbound lane of Highway 18. 46 year old Bradley Chandler of Sumner allegedly tried to pass the semi but struck the back part of the trailer before then colliding with the semi. No injuries were reported. The semi and trailer sustained approximately $10,000 in damages while the Chandler’s GMC Envoy sustained $5,000 in damages. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office also contacted the Department of Health and Human Services for what they called a suspicious 9 month old baby girl in the back of Chandler’s vehicle. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
