A former Waverly postmaster has been indicted by a grand jury on one count of Wire Fraud, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The indictment alleges that Merri Burgart submitted bogus mileage entries for reimbursement on rural postal carrier routes between August and October of 2023. She allegedly filed equipment maintenance allowance for a personal vehicle for 727 miles on one day and 545 miles on another day which would have resulted in nearly $1,200. She allegedly did not scan the mail on those days to hide the fraudulent mileage claims.
